Gay Tours and Trips | Cape Town | Garden Route | Safari | Gay Travel in South Africa
Idea of a circular travelling route for Gays ("others" are welcome too!) from Cape Town to the Garden Route, to Safari in the Eastern Cape and back through the Karoo Desert in 2 weeks time!

Cape Town
Cape Town is the number 1 city pearl Africa has to offer! The city itself and its surroundings attract again and again. It's not surprisingly considering the well developped infrastructure, top position on the Atlantic and Indian Ocean, african laid back mentality and malaysian ingrediants to spice up your dish. A traveller should stay at least 4 days in the mother city of all south african cities in order to explore the most exciting highlights on the menu: nature and sights around the Cape Peninsula, Table Mountain, Botanical Gardens at Kirstenbosch, oldest vineyards in Constantia, V&A Waterfront, beaches and nontheless all the exquisite shopping facilities.
Our accommodation tip: Clarence House and Trevoyan Guest House (gay owned and managed)
South Coast:
From Cape Town the circular route starts with travelling along the False Bay to Gansbaai which is an extraordinary place to observe the whales during the months from August to November. From here it's not far to the most southern point at Cape Agulhas.
Journey from Cape Town to De Kelders/Gansbaai: about 2.5 hrs driving time
Our accommodation tip in De Kelders: Crayfish Lodge (gay-friendly and rooms with a view to the whales)
Garden Route:
The journey leads now from the South Coast to the sub-tropical Garden Route. In the middle of this lush area lays Knysna bordering the lagunes. It's an ideal stop over to explore the beauties of the Garden Route like e.g. the wide beaches of Plettenberg Bay.
Journey from De Kelders/Gansbaai to Knysna: about 5 hrs driving time
Our accommodation tip in Knysna: Cambalala Guest House (gay owned and managed).
Wellness in the Nature’s Valley!
Journey from Knysna to Nature’s Valley: about 1 hrs driving time
Our accommodation tip in the Nature’s Valley: Lily Pond Country Lodge (gay friendly, private Nature Reserve with wellness facilities)

Safari in the Eastern Cape
From the Nature's Valley the journey continues through the Tsitsikamma Forest, passing Port Elizabeth and ends now at Kariega private Game Reserve south from Grahamstown. It's malaria free and offers a home for the Big Five (lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino). An exceptional safari experience is completed with first class service, stylish decor and delicious menus under African sky.
Journey from the Nature’s Valley to Kariega Private Game Reserve: about 3.5 hrs driving time
Our accommodation tip: Ukhozi Lodge

Great and Little Karoo
From here the journey goes back direction to Cape Town through the mystic Great and Little semi-desert Karoo.
There is a possibility to visit the ever popular Addo Elephant Park on the way back.
Oudtshoorn is the capital of ostrich farms. You shouldn't miss visiting or even creeping through the impressive Cango Caves a bit outside of the city.
Journey from the Kariega private Game Reserve to Oudtshoorn: about 5-6 hrs driving time depending which route has been chosen (without time for visiting the Addo Elephant Park)
Our accommodation tip in Oudtshoorn: Thabile Lodge and Guest Farm (gay owned and managed with exclusive Sauna and Gym area)
Winelands:
Coming to the last part of this exciting circular trip the journey leads to the lovely winelands around the greater Cape Town area. Take the chance to wine and dine at a working wine farm and to indulge into nature's beauty of the Robertson Winelands.
Journey from Oudthoorn to Robertson: about 4 hrs driving time
Our accommodation tip: Fraai Uitzicht 1798 (gay friendly and top restaurant)
From Robertson to Cape Town there is a mere 2-3 hrs driving. If choosing the way over Franschhoek Pass you get spectacular views and the possibility to stroll around in the chic Franschhoek village. Here you won't experience any problems finding a good restaurant, rather than an empty table waiting for you.
The last yourney to Cape Town is an easy and laid back drive of 1.5 hrs.
