Travel Cape Town and the Garden Route in 16 day in an alternative way

Go on a circular trip in a hired car for 16 days from 1,489.—per person.

Cape Town – Hermanus – Knysna – Addo Elephant Park – Oudtshoorn – Robertson Wine Valley – Cape Town

1st day    Frankfurt – Cape Town
Your trip to the south of Africa begins with your flight there.

2nd day    Cape Town
You take your hired car at the appointed time and go to your accommodation.

1 passenger car, category B (VW Polo or a similar one with coupling, radio tape, A/C, servo steering) by Europcar.

3 overnight stays at the Clarence House
room category: superior, incl. breakfast.

The Clarence House is located in Cape Town’s calm and fertile district Claremont. You can go on foot to the botanic garden at Kirstenbosch, the Cavendish Mall and several restaurants. If you do not want to go out to eat, your hosts will prepare a tasty meal for you.
The six room have a bathroom and provide you with satellite TV, mini safe, mini bar, hairdryer, radio, telephone and facilities to make tea or coffee. The house also has a comfortable lounge and a small garden with a pool.

3rd day    Cape Town
Cape Town is with good reason considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The inner city area is defined by the famous Table Mountain, the Signal Hill and the Lion’s Head and the sea.
Cape Town and its surroundings offer numerous activities. When you are there, you have to drive up the Table Mountain, visit the waterfront and the Cape of Good Hope!

4th day    Cape Town

5th day    Cape Town – Hermanus
You can travel to Hermanus via the N2 or the coast road.

1 overnight stay at the Abalone Lodge
room category: superior, incl. breakfast.

The Abalone Lodge is located at the Sievers Point at a place where you have a panorama onto the sea and the mountains. The rooms and the lodges are tastefully equipped. Between July and November there is no better place for whale watching from the land than Hermanus. The southern right whales come very close to the cliffs. But you can also go out in little boats and almost stroke the soft sea giants.

6th day    Hermanus – Knysna
Today, you will have to accomplish a longer track to arrive at the Garden Route.

4 overnight stays at the Fish Eagle Lodge, incl. breakfast.
The Fish Eagle Lodge is located in a mountain above the Knysna Lagoon. From here, you have got a splendid view over the lagoon and the surrounding mountains. The rooms are distributed onto several houses in a beautiful garden. They all have got a bathroom (with bath and separate shower), a fridge, facilities to make tea or coffee and a balcony or a patio. The lodge is the perfect accommodation at the Garden Route. Your hosts can advise you on how to spend your days in Knysna and its surroundings.

7th day    Knysna
You will have some time on your own. When you are staying at the Garden Route, you can alternate activity days and swimming days. You can e.g. go fro, Knysna to George on the steam train Outeniqua Choo-Tjoo, take a cruise on the Knysna Lagoon, visit the Tsitsikamma National Park to see the last South African giant trees, and so on. The Garden Route offers you numerous activities! There are splendid beaches, which invite you to swim and bathe in the sun, nearby and a bit further away. You will often be able to use them almost all alone.

8th day    Knysna

10th day    Knysna – Addo Elephant National Park
When you follow the N2 to the east you will arrive at the Addo Elephant National Park.

2 overnight stays at a rest camp
room category: bungalow, without board.
The Addo Elephant National Park was founded in 1931 to protect the remaining eleven elephant in this area. Today, there are more than 350 elephants in the national park and buffalos, rhinos and several species of antelopes. You can either go on safaris in your own car or participate in the guided safaris offered by the national park (you can book and pay them there).

11th day    Addo Elephant National Park
You will have time on your own. Go on a safari into the national park. There is a watering hole right by the rest camp. Many elephants use it for drinking.

12th day    Addo Elephant National Park – Oudtshoorn
You should start early today, because you will have to travel a longer distance. You will travel to Oudtshoorn via Kirkwood and Willowmore.

2 overnight stays at the Hlangana Lodge
room category: standard, incl. breakfast.

The Hlangana Lodge has got 12 generous rooms. Every room is equipped with a shower/WC, an air conditioning system, a mini bar and facilities to make tea or coffee.

13th day    Oudtshoorn
The little Karoo offers numerous attractions. Oudtshoorn is the ostrich centre of South Africa. You can visit an ostrich farm or see the Cango Caves, a stalactite cave.

14th day    Oudtshoorn – Robertson
You will go to the wine-growing regions in the east on the historic R62.

2 overnight stays at the Fraai Uitzicht 1798
room category: suite, incl. breakfast.

This historic vineyard is located at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains. It provides you with splendid views onto the surrounding vineyards. End the days in the in-house restaurant.

15th day    Robertson
You will have time on your own. You can relax in the beautiful garden or at the pool or go on a excursion to the vineyards of the Robertson Valley wine route.

16th day    Robertson – Cape Town
You will go on a scenic way through the vineyards to Cape Town.

Cape Town
You will return your hired car at the Cape Town airport.

Cape Town – Frankfurt
Today, you will have to say goodbye to South Africa. Have a nice return flight.
